DOG CONTROL WARNING
-
In Glenhaven, the laws regulating dogs are established by Whatcom County under County Code 6.04 and are enforced by the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Department and/or their deputized animal control agent. All of the unincorporated areas of Whatcom County, including Glenhaven, are declared to be dog control zones unless specifically exempted. The following restrictions apply:
A. Except in exempt areas, the owner or keeper of any dog shall not allow it to be at large and not under control. “Under control” means that the owner, by means of a leash, restrains the dog to the owner’s immediate proximity, preventing the dog from trespassing upon property or annoying or chasing other persons, animals, or vehicles of any sort.
B. No owner or keeper of any dog shall allow continuous barking for more than a 20-minute period.
C. No dog may jump at or upon, or otherwise threaten persons using sidewalks, streets, alleys or other public ways.
People violating the above restrictions will be reported to the Sheriff’s office. A dog or dogs believed to be in violation and found in a public place may be immediately impounded. Violations of County Code 6.04 constituting an infraction shall subject the violator to a penalty of not more than $50.00. Violations constituting a misdemeanor shall subject the violator to a fine not to exceed $500.00 and/or by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not to exceed 90 days.
PLEASE RESPECT YOUR NEIGHBORS AND THE COMMUNITY AND FOLLOW THE DOG CONTROL LAWS.
